Commissioner ruling:
I do not like the idea of decreasing the amount of players on a team’s roster to 27 or 28. However I do not think trades should be declined if your trade will bring you below the required 30 many rosters. Therefore I vote no on the Prop, however after consultation with the Assistant Commissioner we have decided on a compromise. Any trade which will reduce your team to below the 30 player minimum will be executed. Teams will be given a grace period to ensure their roster is in compliance. Rosters involving a trade will be in compliance prior to Midnight of the Saturday before a game. No trades will be approved that will put you over the contract, salary or roster maximums unless designated drops are sent with the trade. The League office will use their judgment and work with owners. _________________ Bill Jones

Are the explanations as to why somebody voted a certain way being released to the league? I would be curious to know about the one I submitted in particluar. Thanks. _________________

Subject: Addition of a Taxi Squad Spot
Often times, a manager can make a good pick in the 4th or 5th round and recognize a player who has some great long-term potential. However, because of roster limitations, made even stricter by the addition of two additional IDP starting positions last season, it has become very difficult to hold on to players that could be more than a season away from paying dividends.
As a result, I believe that 4th and 5th round picks have almost no value. They are useful only in those RFA situations that require that level of compensation.
To enhance the value of late picks as well as offer a reward for good long-term scouting and planning, I propose that every team have one or two taxi squad spots. These spots would be extra roster spots above the 30 player active roster limits in which a player could be kept – this player would not count against the salary cap, contract totals, or roster limits. This player MUST have been selected in the 4th or 5th round of the rookie draft.
While in the taxi squad, a player cannot be started in a fantasy game. In order for a player to be started, he has to be called up from the taxi squad. At this point, the player WOULD count against the salary cap, roster limitations, as well as the contract totals.
* - if the CC would like to add TWO taxi squad propositions, I would propose that you cannot have two players from the 4th round – that is, if there are two spots, you can keep 1 player from the 4th round and 1 player from the 5th round or two players from the 5th round.
RESULTS - RULE CHANGED
Shawn - YES
Mike - YES
Neil - YES
Jimmy - NO
This change will be implemented after a 1 year delay so allow owners to adjust to the different value of the 4th and 5th round picks.
Rule specifications:
A taxi squad player does NOT count against salary totals, contract totals, or roster limits while on the taxi squad.
There will be two taxi squad spots - you cannot have two players from the 4th round (if you have two taxi squad players you can only have 1 from the 4th and 1 from the 5th) |
I like this ruling, I have one question. Does the spots that are filled with 4th and 5th round picks have to come from that season's rookie draft only, and do you have to be the one to have selected them?
Example A: Team A drafts a guy in round 5, but doesn't sign him, can Team B fill their taxi squad with that player? Good to know for teams without the applicable round selection.
Example B: Team A wants to call up a member of their Taxi squad, drops a player legally. Can they now sign a player drafted in that applicable round from the UFA pool to fill the Taxi spot?
Thanks.... _________________ Chris Cantrill

The way I envisioned this would be that you draft a player in the 4th/5th rounds and then use the taxi squad designation on a player. Having called up that player to your active roster, you would not be able to refill that taxi squad spot until the following draft - so to answer your question, at least from the way I envisioned this and how it was discussed in the CC meeting, you DO have to be the team that drafted the player. _________________ 2006 NFC North Division Champions

To piggyback on this say I draft a player in the 4th and 5th round and place him on my Taxi Squad this season. I never call him up and he remains on my Taxi Squad, next season do I have to replace him with a new person or can he stay? _________________

He can stay. You just can't keep a new Taxi Squad guy. _________________ 2006 NFC North Division Champions

Thank-you Mike. I have 28 pics this year in the 4th and 5th round so I will have my two taxi squad players. _________________
